About Us

Looking for a Christian, nurturing, and tight-knit Parents Day Out / Preschool program that’s especially suited to a child’s first experience in child care and education? We want you to be part of our First Presbyterian Preschool family.

Whom we serve: Ages 2 to those not yet in kindergarten, dependent on their age by August 15

When we serve: Mondays - Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m., with extended stay available for ages 3 and up until 2:00 p.m. for a small additional charge. We adhere to Murfreesboro City and Rutherford County Schools holidays, inclement weather days, and RCS in-service days.

Where we serve: In the heart of downtown Murfreesboro at 210 N. Spring Street.

How we serve: We put our students and our faith at the center of our school. We choose to maintain one of the best teacher to student ratios in Murfreesboro — 2 teachers to 6 students for our 2-year-old class, 2 teachers to 10 students for our 3-year-old class, and 2 teachers to 12 students for our 4-year-old class. This allows us to foster our small, family atmosphere and safe space for our students to take their first steps into education where they work on social skills, physical abilities, emotional understanding, and those first slices of independence — all while affirming each child’s important place in the family of God.

Why we serve: We want to offer a positive, high quality, secure, and faith-based first learning experience for the Murfreesboro preschool community and their families.

Our Story

How long has school been open? First Presbyterian Preschool has been operating for more than fifty years!

Why did it start?
This program began as a partnership between First Presbyterian Church and the Charity Circle of Murfreesboro to offer affordable childcare to underprivileged families.

Any other “sweet” details?

Our small class sizes and proximity to each other make us a tight knit group.  Our children and families get to know each other and become their own little community

Why only for preschool age?

Our space only allows for our three classes.  If at any point in the future that changes, we would love to be able to offer classes for more ages.

What’s unique about being located downtown? Maybe something like “being located in downtown Murfreesboro locations makes us feel like woven into the community, gives us access to things like library, fire station

Meet Our Director

How long have you been the director?

I have been the director since January 2018

How long have you been at First Pres in any capacity?

First I was a preschool parent (2003-2009), then I was a preschool teacher (2009-2016), and THEN I became the preschool director (2018-present)

What made you first want to work at First Pres?

After my son and my daughter began attending elementary school, I was offered a teaching position and I jumped at the chance!

What is your background in childcare/preschool?

I would like to say that I studied ECE in school, but I did not. I studied Aerospace. BIG DIFFERENCE. But my experience with children goes back even further than college. As an older teen I was a youth leader and carried on that kind of involvement throughout my adulthood.

What are your favorite things about First Pres?

I love the community that the church and the preschool offer, and I love the location

What are your favorite First Pres traditions?

The Thanksgiving Program and Potluck is my absolute favorite! Our children sing some silly songs and then we gather together in the Common room and have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and fellowship together. I also love Hibernation week where all of our kids go on a bear hunt, and Egg Drop day for our four year olds

What do you love about the staff/what do you look for in staff members?

Our preschool staff is great at collaborating and having fun with each other and the children

How do you know you make an impact on your First Pres families?

I still see some of my first class out in the "wild" and get hugs from the families

Mention Dr. Hinkle and how he fits in with the school?

The pastors at First Presbyterian Church (Dr John Hinkle and Dr Bobby Harding) have a great relationship with our children. From weekly chapel times to daily drop-ins, they know the children's names and their families.
